Santee CA
Santee is a San Diego County suburb in California with a population of 53,413 at the time of the 2010 census. Although part of East County, Santee is 29 km from the Pacific Ocean.
The city is connected to the coast by State Route 52, a six-lane highway that runs from Interstate 5 in La Jolla to State Route 67 in El Cajon. The city is divided by the San Diego River and a linear green belt that includes parks and hiking trails as well as more than 450 acres of natural waterfront habitat.
Santee was named after Milton Santee, second husband of Jennie Blodgett whose first husband, George A. Cowles, was a pioneer rancher and businessman in San Diego County. Santee was part of Rancho El Cajon, a Mexican Rancho Scholarship owned by Don Miguel de Pedrorena (Californio Ranchero), a signator of California Constitution. The region was home to the Kumeyaay. Native Americans founded the village of Sinyeweche on the banks of the San Diego River in what is now the Santee area.
Santee shares the northern part of the valley with the city of El Cajon. Santee is divided by the San Diego River, which runs from east to west within the city limits. Hills form a natural barrier between Santee’s north and west sides.
With a height of 1,198 feet, the Rattlesnake Mountain is the highest point in Santee. It is home to Sky Ranch, a community that is spearheaded by a large illuminated star during the holiday season.
At the 2010 census, Santee had 53,413 residents. The population density was 32,316 people per square mile (12,477 km2). The ethnic composition of the city was 44,583 (82.5%) white, 1,057 (20%) African-American, 40.9% (0.8%) Indian, 2,044 (3.8%) Asian (18%) Filipino, 04% Chinese, 0.5% Vietnamese, 03% Japanese, 02% Korean, 2.2% Indian and 05% other (25.3% -0.5%) Pacific islanders, 2,677 (5.0%) non-racial and 2,890 (54%) two or more racial. According to the Koppen climate classification system, the city has a semi-arid climate (bskobba BSK on climate maps ).
Hispanic or Latino of any race were 86.99 (16.3%). The census shows that 52,447 people (98.2% of the population) lived in households, of which 77% (0.1%) were in non-institutionalised groups and a quarter (89.9%) (1.7%) were institutionalized. Of the 19,006 households, 7,156 (37.1%) had children under the age of 18 years old, 10,304 (53.4%) were home together, 2,614 (13.5%) had a housekeeper with a husband and 1,157 (6.0%) had only one male housekeeper and no wife. There were 1,135 (5.9%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships and 11,906 same-sex couples or partnerships.
There were 14,075 families (72.9% of all households) with an average family size of 3.13. The age distribution was 12,710 persons, 23.8% under 18 years, 5,068 persons, 9.5% between 18 and 24 years, 14,790 persons, 27.7% between 25 and 44 years, 15,105 persons, 28.3% between 45 and 64 years and 5,740 persons, 10.7% who were 65 years or older. The median age was 37.2 years. The average household size was 2.72.
There were 20,048 residential units with an average density of 1,129 / square mile (2,048 / ha ), 13,576 (70.3%) self-occupied and 5,730 (29.7%) rented. There were 100 women under 18 and 90.2% of men. The vacancy rate for homeowners was 1.5% and the vacancy rate for rental apartments was 4.0%. Out of 100 women, 93.6% were male.
